Product description
Structural formula:
Silicone Fluids AK are linear, non-reactive polydimethylsiloxanes with viscosities ranging from
0.65 to 1 000 000 mm2. Due to their chemical structure, WACKER® AK products have an outstanding property profile, which sets them apart from organic materials such as mineral oils.
Properties
WACKER® AK are clear, odorless and colorless liquids.
Special features
– minimal change in physical properties over a broad
temperature range
– excellent water-repellent properties
– good dielectric properties
– low surface tension and thus high surface activity
– chemically highly unreactive
– low solidifying point
– high flash point
– high heat resistance
– good solubility in a wide range of solvents
Application
– release agent
– lubricant
– hydraulic fluid
– antifoam agent
– water-repellent agent
– liquid dielectric for electrical and electronic
equipment
– heat-transfer oil
– polish additive
– plastics additive
– additive for textile and fiber auxiliaries
Processing
Due to WACKER® SILICONE FLUID’s many diverse applications, no general processing information can be provided. Parameters will vary from application to application.
Available in a range of viscosities, WACKER® SILICONE FLUIDS AK are miscible with
each other in any ratio. The standard product’s viscosity can thus be altered to suit your individual needs.
WACKER® AK products are non-polar liquids and are immiscible with polar solvents such as water or shortchain alcohols. In aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorohydrocarbons, ethers, esters, ketones and higher alcohols these products soluble in any proportion.
Before the product is used with solvents for the first time, it is advisable to perform a lab-scale test. When solvents are used, please remember to read the appropriate hazard information.

Storage
When stored at 60 ° C or lower in the original unopened containers, the shelf life of WACKER ® AK liquids is 30 to 60 monthssince the date of production, depending on the chosen viscosity.
Fluid with a viscosity of less than 5 cSt are flammable. Do not store them near hot tools, and open flame.
The shelf life is the period of time during which when stored in original unopened container material retains data according to the specification. Storage period is calculated from the date of
manufacturing (unless otherwise specified).
The date of expiration of the warranty period is indicated on the packaging. Storage of the material longer than warranty period does not mean that the material can not be used in
future. In this case, the product should be tested to determine the possibility of further use.
Impurities and fire prevention
At high temperatures, the product exposed to the contaminants of strong acids, alkalis, some metals and oxidizers. These impurities may increase the rate of formation of volatile decomposition products. Oxidants also increase the viscosity of the product.
If these factors occur, it is necessary to periodically monitor the temperature of the flash to ensure safe handling. Smoke may also appear at elevated temperatures.
